About the role

The Department of Wood Science at UBC is seeking a part‑time sessional lecturer to teach the physics component of WOOD 282 (Wood Physics and Mechanics) for Term 2 (January 1 – April 30 2027). The appointment is 80 % of a 3‑credit course, focusing on the physical properties of wood and water.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver core lectures covering water properties, moisture dynamics, thermal behavior, acoustics, and electrical characteristics of wood.
  • Lead laboratory sessions and supervise related experiments.
  • Prepare and administer examinations, grade homework and lab reports.
  • Mentor teaching assistants and hold regular office hours for student support.

Required profile

  • Solid background in wood physics with hands‑on experience in related laboratory work.
  • Undergraduate degree in Wood Science and a Ph.D. in Forestry (or equivalent) specializing in wood physics.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to undergraduate students.
