Part‑Time Cook – Residential Care

About the role

The Cook reports to the Director of Culinary Services or Dietary Manager and is responsible for preparing and delivering meals to residents, guests, and staff in a long‑term care environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals according to menus, production sheets, and therapeutic diet requirements.
• Conduct daily temperature audits of refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms and record findings.
• Follow standardized recipes, production charts, and budget constraints while ensuring food safety.
• Participate in special occasion and themed meal planning, staff meetings, and training sessions.
• Maintain compliance with provincial/municipal regulations and Extendicare’s policies, including the Quality Improvement Program.

Required profile

• Current Food Handler's Certificate (required) and Red Seal Certificate (preferred).
• Experience in large‑quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement settings.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation, Canada’s Food Guide, and therapeutic diet planning.
• Ability to lift heavy, hot items and stand for most of the shift.
• Willingness to provide a recent Vulnerable Sector Check.
