About the role

The Department of Wood Science at the University of British Columbia is hiring a part‑time sessional lecturer to teach WOOD 384 – Wood Sawmilling and Drying for the 2026 Term 1 semester. The appointment covers 50 % of a 3‑credit course (1.5 credits) and runs from September 1 to December 30, 2026.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver core lectures on timber kiln design, operation, and drying theory.
  • Lead laboratory sessions in the Wood Fluids and Thermal Treatments lab.
  • Prepare and administer exams, grade homework and lab reports.
  • Mentor teaching assistants and hold regular office hours for students.

Required profile

  • Undergraduate degree in Wood Science.
  • Ph.D. in Forestry with a focus on wood drying.
  • Extensive hands‑on experience with experimental kilns and timber drying processes.
  • Ability to safely operate laboratory equipment.

Required skills

  • Kiln operation and maintenance.
  • Timber drying techniques.
  • Wood science fundamentals.
