Oral Health Peer Support Assistant

About the role

The Oral Health Peer Support Assistant works with Woolwich Community Health Centre and the Region of Waterloo Public Health Dental team to improve oral health awareness and access in Woolwich and Wellesley Townships. This part‑time role focuses on promoting the Healthy Smiles Ontario program and supporting community members in obtaining dental screening and education.

Key responsibilities

• Promote Healthy Smiles Ontario through direct outreach to low‑income families, community partners, and health‑centre staff.
• Distribute Healthy Smiles Ontario promotional materials and oral‑health resources such as toothbrushes, floss, and timers.
• Provide oral‑health education in group settings, community fairs, and one‑on‑one interactions.
• Identify clients for dental‑screening appointments at the health centre, assist with booking, and support attendance.
• Collaborate with public‑health dental staff to deliver screening services and educational sessions.
• Perform administrative duties and maintain accurate documentation in line with program requirements.
• Participate in regular training and mentorship meetings with public‑health dental staff.

Required profile

• Dental assistant training or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory.
• Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.
• Experience or lived experience with low‑income or underserved populations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English; additional language (e.g., Plautdietsch) is an asset.
• Access to personal transportation and flexible availability.
