Operations Accountant

About the role

WestJet is looking for an Operations Accountant to join its Finance team. The role supports month‑end close, balance‑sheet reconciliations and provides analytical insight to drive operational decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Post monthly accruals, re‑classifications and other journal entries.
• Develop, complete and refine balance‑sheet reconciliations, investigating any anomalies.
• Prepare variance analysis for monthly and quarterly reporting.
• Continuously improve month‑end processes and procedures.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams on ad‑hoc reporting, analysis, projects and decision support.
• Mentor peers, contribute to team brainstorming and handle ad‑hoc requests.

Required profile

• Professional accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA, CPA).
• Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
• Attention to detail and a drive for continuous improvement.
• Effective communication skills for collaboration with business partners.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with ERP systems such as JD Edwards.
• Familiarity with reporting tools (e.g., Hyperion) – considered an asset.
