About the role
The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager will lead West Moberly First Nations’ health and safety program, ensuring compliance with the Canada Labour Code, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and WorkSafe BC. Working closely with department managers and Human Resources, the role safeguards a safe, healthy, and respectful workplace for all staff and community members.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and conduct risk assessments, develop controls and mitigation strategies for identified hazards.
- Design and deliver competency assessments, safety training, orientations, and workplace inspections.
- Investigate incidents, manage injury and illness reporting, and maintain accurate records.
- Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is current, functional, and supplied to employees.
- Write reports, submit regulatory filings, and present safety information to staff.
- Track and analyze incident trends to inform prevention strategies.
- Mentor and train employees on OHS programs, practices, and PPE usage.
- Coordinate safety training with department managers and develop emergency response plans.
- Manage monthly and annual OHS reporting required by Canadian authorities.
- Liaise with WorkSafe BC, health authorities, and industry safety associations.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in occupational health and safety management.
- Strong knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, Canadian OHS Regulations, and WorkSafe BC requirements.
- Ability to collaborate with managers, HR, and the Health & Safety Committee.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and training.
