Metal Worker – Day Shift (Trades 2)

About the role

The Metal Worker performs skilled sheet‑metal work in the fabrication, repair, maintenance and renovation of fixtures for heating, ventilation, roofing, windows, doors and related installations across the University campus.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate eave troughs, down‑pipes, metal windows, frameworks, clad doors, countertops, fume hoods and other galvanized iron, aluminium and stainless‑steel fixtures.
• Conduct inspection tests on machinery and equipment, diagnose defects and carry out repairs or recommend solutions.
• Assemble parts using welding, soldering, brazing, bolting, riveting, screwing and other joining methods.
• Handle asbestos or other hazardous insulation materials in compliance with safety standards.
• Respond to trouble calls and emergencies during and after normal working hours.

Required profile

• Journeyperson‑level trade certification as a Sheet Metal Worker.
• Valid BC driver’s licence and at least five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Annual salary $86,232 – $91,992 (CAD) plus hourly premiums for welding ticket and BCIT welding courses.
