Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training

About the role

CBCL is looking for an early‑career Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training to join its Industrial Services team supporting pulp and paper projects across Atlantic Canada. You will work alongside experienced mechanical, process, civil and structural professionals on challenging industrial projects, developing sustainable engineering solutions in a collaborative consulting environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support design and delivery of mechanical upgrades, equipment replacements, process support systems and plant infrastructure improvements for pulp and paper facilities.
• Prepare calculations, equipment layouts, piping designs, specifications, cost estimates and technical memoranda under senior engineer guidance.
• Coordinate mechanical design requirements with process, electrical, civil, structural and environmental disciplines.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations and construction reviews to document existing conditions and support design development.
• Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs and assist with construction administration to ensure work aligns with design intent.
• Assist with commissioning, start‑up support and troubleshooting of industrial mechanical systems.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering and eligibility for registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training with APEGNB.
• Early‑career experience (co‑op, internship) in consulting, industrial environments or related mechanical systems is an asset.
• Interest in industrial mechanical design such as piping, pumps, tanks, pressure equipment and utilities.
• Detail‑oriented, organized, eager to learn and able to manage priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a valid driver’s licence with willingness to travel within Atlantic Canada.
