Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Next Structural Integrity Inc. is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support its nuclear and oil & gas clients. The role involves leading technical design activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering high‑quality engineering solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise groups of specialized engineers in the energy sector.
• Maintain project timelines and ensure tasks are completed within allocated time frames.
• Coordinate with discipline leads, project managers, contractors and clients to exchange information for preliminary and detailed design.
• Prepare reports, calculations (test, hydraulic, equipment sizing, stress, FMEA) and technical specifications.
• Develop strategies and policies for program planning, evaluation, monitoring and reporting.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, mentoring and performance accountability for the team.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of nuclear power plant design, operation and reactor components (primary heat transport, feeder, calandria).
• Experience with engineering change control processes and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Background in piping and equipment design for nuclear and oil & gas applications.
• Proven ability to prepare technical reports and deliverables to successful conclusion.

• ASME Section III Subsections NB, NC, ND, NF and Appendix XXIII qualification.
• ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes.
• ASME Section VIII pressure vessel code.
• Engineering Change Control (ECC) process.
• Stress analysis, equipment sizing, hydraulic testing, FMEA.
