Manufacturing Engineer (Nuclear Components)

About the role
The Manufacturing Engineer will develop, validate and optimise machining and manufacturing processes for CANDU nuclear reactor pressure‑vessel components and related safety‑critical hardware. Acting as a technical leader, you will ensure that all processes are safe, repeatable, compliant with nuclear codes and capable of meeting quality, cost and schedule targets.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement machining processes, tooling strategies and cutting parameters for high‑precision nuclear pressure‑boundary components.
- Develop and manage Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), PFMEAs and rework/repair plans.
- Provide hands‑on engineering support during setup, first‑piece validation and production runs.
- Lead manufacturing readiness for new product introductions and production ramp‑ups, validating process capability through trials and first‑article builds.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles, drive 5S implementation and lead continuous‑improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery and cost.
- Support and enhance Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to ensure accurate routing, data capture and traceability for nuclear components.
- Design and maintain fixtures, tooling and work‑holding solutions, and produce engineering drawings in accordance with nuclear standards.
- Create and maintain clear, controlled work instructions and standardised documentation for a nuclear manufacturing environment.
Required profile
- Proven experience in precision machining and nuclear‑quality manufacturing environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in Lean Manufacturing, production ramp‑up and MES implementation.
- Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and support transition from development to steady‑state production.
- Strong problem‑solving skills with a data‑driven approach to process optimisation.
