Managing Director – Quantum Matter Institute

About the role

The Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute (QMI) seeks a Managing Director to set strategic direction and oversee the implementation of organizational priorities. Working closely with the QMI Scientific Director and Executive Committee, the MD will strengthen QMI’s position as a world leader in quantum material science and technology.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute strategic plans for the institute and its multi‑user facilities.
• Lead all administrative functions, including human resources, finance, travel, purchasing, communications, and research support.
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures that align with QMI’s goals.
• Build and maintain key stakeholder relationships across academia, industry, and funding agencies.
• Foster a culture of integrity, collegiality, and agility throughout the institute.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a research or academic environment.
• Ability to collaborate with scientific leadership and executive committees.
• Strong strategic planning and execution skills.
• Experience managing complex administrative and operational functions.
• Demonstrated capacity to develop policies, oversee budgets, and nurture stakeholder partnerships.
