Long haul truck driver

About the role

CargoRelay Transport Ltd. is seeking experienced long‑haul truck drivers to join its national fleet based in Winnipeg. The role involves transporting refrigerated goods across Canada and into the United States, often as part of a two‑person team or convoy. Drivers must ensure timely deliveries while maintaining safety and fuel‑efficiency standards.

Key responsibilities

• Calculate repair and parts costs when needed.
• Plan and adjust routes using GPS and other navigation tools to minimise fuel consumption and emissions.
• Coach colleagues on new methods and work techniques.
• Provide professional customer service during deliveries.
• Load, unload, and secure cargo, including refrigerated items.
• Perform pre‑trip, en‑route, and post‑trip inspections of vehicle systems such as tires, brakes, lights, and cold‑storage equipment.
• Conduct emergency roadside repairs and oversee vehicle condition.
• Record cargo details, hours of service, distance travelled, and fuel consumption for dispatch.

Required profile

• High school graduation certificate.
• Valid Class 1 (or A) driver’s licence with Air Brakes endorsement.
• Ability to work long periods away from home, including cross‑border and overnight trips.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to handle repetitive tasks while seated.
• Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Air Brakes endorsement.
• Operation of GPS and other navigation equipment.
• Use of on‑board trip recorder/computer.
• Experience driving refrigerated tractor‑trailers.
