Linux Systems Administrator – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

Help us improve Alberta’s digital future! Cybera is looking for a purpose‑driven Linux Systems Administrator to manage a unique hybrid environment that spans bare‑metal OpenStack clusters and public‑cloud integrations, supporting researchers, educators and innovators across the province.

Key responsibilities

• Engineer research and education platforms by deploying and managing public‑cloud services, regional security tools and collaborative data environments.
• Own the full hardware‑to‑software lifecycle, from physical maintenance to scaling infrastructure via Infrastructure as Code.
• Modernize operations through best practices for Kubernetes, Prometheus monitoring and automated configuration management (Ansible/Puppet).
• Provide Tier‑3 technical support to member organisations in the public and education sectors, assisting with cloud and logging integrations.
• Participate in a compensated on‑call rotation for applicable projects.

Required profile

• Strong Linux expertise, including kernel and shell proficiency, with a hands‑on, tinkerer mindset for hardware troubleshooting.
• Deep understanding of system observability, metrics, logs and tracing using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ClickHouse and Zabbix.
• Experience managing hybrid and multi‑cloud environments, including private OpenStack clouds and public providers (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Interest in building data telemetry and log‑management pipelines using technologies like Vector, FluentD or Kafka.
