Licensed Practical Nurse – Casual (SAFER Program)

About the role

AVI Health & Community Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the SAFER program in Victoria. The casual position provides participant‑centered health care using a harm‑reduction, trauma‑informed approach.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, screen and educate participants with complex primary‑care needs and poly‑substance use.
• Provide care in the SAFER clinic and outreach settings, including wound management, mental health, sexual health and medication administration.
• Distribute harm‑reduction supplies, conduct naloxone training and support risk‑reduction strategies.
• Develop and maintain individualized care plans in collaboration with participants and the interdisciplinary team.
• Coordinate referrals, advocacy and follow‑up with community partners and specialist services.

Required profile

• Licensed Practical Nurse with 1–5 years of full‑scope nursing experience, preferably with high‑level poly‑substance use and mental health populations.
• Experience in supervised consumption sites, safer supply or other harm‑reduction programs.
• Commitment to social‑justice principles, anti‑racism, decolonisation and equity‑oriented care.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) for documentation and reporting.
• Strong clinical assessment, wound care and medication management skills.

• Casual hourly wage on the BCNU pay grid (CAD $32.84–$41.35 per hour) plus applicable premiums.
