Legal Specialist, Law Enforcement

About the role

Anthropic is seeking a hands‑on Legal Specialist focused on law‑enforcement and government data‑request handling. The role sits within the Litigation, Regulatory & Policy team and will help build and operate Anthropic’s response process for subpoenas, court orders and other requests for user data.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end response to law‑enforcement and government requests for user data, from intake through production and closeout.
• Prepare and execute data productions, including scoping, retrieval, coordination with counsel and delivery.
• Manage foreign and cross‑border processes such as MLATs and letters rogatory, handling escalations across jurisdictions.
• Respond to civil third‑party subpoenas and preservation demands.
• Maintain knowledge of where user data resides across Anthropic’s products and operate internal data‑retrieval tooling.
• Run and continuously improve the law‑enforcement response workflow and supporting tools.
• Partner with Trust & Safety, Security, Privacy and Engineering on requests affecting user accounts or safety investigations.
• Coordinate with outside and in‑house counsel on objections, challenges and request narrowing.
• Produce regular reporting on request volume, deadlines and queue health, supporting transparency reporting.
• Monitor legal developments in government access to user data and advise the team on operational impact.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a legal operations, business/operations manager or paralegal role within an in‑house legal department.
• Direct, front‑line experience handling law‑enforcement or government requests for user data, including subpoenas, court orders, warrants, preservation letters and emergency disclosures.
• Working knowledge of the legal framework governing law‑enforcement access to user data, such as the Stored Communications Act and related statutes.
• Ability to collaborate across Trust & Safety, Security, Privacy, Engineering and external counsel to achieve compliant outcomes.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage high‑volume request queues and produce accurate reporting.
