Legal Services Field Operations & Litigation Support Specialist
Matrix_Professional_Staffing_Solutions_Inc.
Job description
About the role
Matrix, a boutique professional services and consulting firm, is recruiting experienced independent contractors to act as Legal Services Field Operations and Litigation Support Specialists. The work is project-based, drawn from client Work Orders, and can be fully remote, hybrid, or involve travel to courthouses, registries, government offices, law firms and other sites. It suits professionals comfortable working independently and handling confidential information.
Key responsibilities
- Organize and maintain litigation, matter and project documentation, and prepare documents for filing, service, production or electronic submission
- Support court and registry work: attend courthouses and registries, handle filings, document delivery and retrieval, and keep accurate records of submissions and receipts
- Conduct authorized public-record searches, retrieve records from government offices and document search results
- Prepare electronic case materials, assist with PDF merging, pagination, Bates numbering, indexing and document uploads to Case Center / CaseLines
- Handle property-related document and records assignments, including coordinating photographs and documents
- Manage each project independently, track progress and report status through Matrix's online project-management platform
Required profile
- 3-5+ years of experience in legal administration, litigation support, court services, records administration, property administration or government services
- Strong understanding of legal terminology, administrative procedures and professional documentation
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and handle confidential, potentially privileged information with discretion
- Willingness to attend client or public-sector locations when required
Required skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other common business applications
- Preferred: experience with Thomson Reuters Case Center / CaseLines, Clio, MyCase, PracticePanther, PCLaw, CosmoLex, iManage, NetDocuments, SharePoint, OneDrive, Dropbox, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Teams and Zoom
- Preferred: familiarity with Ontario court and tribunal environments, court filing and registry procedures, public-record searches, Bates numbering and PDF production
This is an independent contractor, project-based engagement, not an employment position. Contractors manage their own projects, equipment and resources and are responsible for their own taxes, insurance and business expenses. Matrix provides the client relationship, scope and deliverables.
