Legal Counsel

About the role

Postmedia is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its fast‑paced Legal Department. Based in the Greater Toronto Area and working remotely, you will provide business‑focused legal advice across corporate, commercial and regulatory matters for a leading Canadian news media company.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with business units to support strategic initiatives and provide timely guidance on legal and governance issues.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including leases, vendor agreements, intellectual property licences, contractor agreements, SaaS and software licence agreements, and mobile development agreements.
• Oversee operational litigation matters, coordinating with external counsel as needed.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and Finance to ensure compliance and governance of equity‑based compensation arrangements.
• Participate in the evaluation of innovative projects and commercial operations.
• Support M&A activities and related legal work.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience since call to the Ontario Bar, either in a major law firm or an in‑house legal department.
• Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
• Strong background in corporate, securities, transactions and/or commercial law.
• Proven ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and deliver practical, value‑added advice.
• High integrity, curiosity and the capacity to work independently or as part of a team.
