Legal Counsel

About the role

Monex Canada Inc. is seeking a Legal Counsel to provide comprehensive legal support across its Canadian operations and collaborate with teams worldwide. Reporting to the Global General Counsel, the role will cover commercial, regulatory, corporate governance, compliance, and litigation matters in a fast‑moving financial services environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide internal legal advice on a wide range of regulatory and commercial issues.
• Draft, review, negotiate and finalize contracts with clients, partners, vendors and contractors.
• Support agreements related to foreign exchange, derivatives, money transmission, payment services, technology, marketing, procurement and operations.
• Assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry standards, offering guidance on risk management.
• Assist with corporate governance, maintenance of books and records, and corporate reorganisations.
• Conduct due‑diligence, intragroup agreements and group‑level initiatives.
• Advise on data privacy and protection requirements.
• Support litigation matters, including research, document preparation and settlement negotiations.
• Manage legal invoices, oversee outside counsel relationships and track legal expenses.
• Develop and improve legal document templates and standardise processes.

Required profile

• Law degree and admission to practice in Canada.
• Experience in financial services or related regulated industries.
• Strong understanding of corporate, regulatory and commercial law.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑border teams.
