About the role
Join WSP’s Legal Affairs team as a Legal Counsel and play a pivotal role in supporting major infrastructure, energy and environmental projects across Canada. You will influence business outcomes by guiding contract strategy, mitigating risk and ensuring compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Provide legal support for negotiation, drafting and interpretation of complex contracts in the ERI and E&E sectors.
- Deliver timely, practical advice to project teams from inception to completion.
- Advise internal stakeholders on legal, commercial and risk‑related matters.
- Draft and review legal documents, including contract templates and client agreements.
- Support bid processes by reviewing RFPs and contributing to service proposals.
- Assess project risks and present findings to internal risk committees.
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance, policies and applicable laws.
- Collaborate with Claims & Litigation teams on disputes and contractual issues.
Required profile
- Member in good standing of a Canadian provincial Bar.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements in construction or engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of risk management and business fundamentals.
- Experience with major project delivery models (EPCM, design‑build, partnerships) is an asset.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts.
- Strong analytical, organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.
