About the role
Lightspeed’s Legal Team is looking for a Legal Counsel to join its Montreal office. You will work closely with business units across the globe, providing commercially‑minded legal solutions and helping the company navigate the fast‑changing tech landscape.
Key responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate commercial contracts with customers, partners and vendors across North America, EMEA and APAC.
- Provide legal and commercial advice to stakeholders across all departments.
- Document legal know‑how and deliver training to the wider Legal Team and business partners.
- Identify and advise on legal risks and compliance issues related to new products or features.
- Conduct focused legal research and analysis.
- Manage legal aspects of complex, cross‑functional, multi‑jurisdictional projects.
- Improve Legal Team operations and processes.
- Monitor regulatory changes and handle regulatory developments.
- Support litigation, dispute management and investigations by regulatory bodies.
Required profile
- LL.B or J.D. degree.
- Licensed to practice law in Canada and/or the United States.
- 2‑4 years post‑qualification experience in a law firm or in‑house, preferably with international, multi‑jurisdictional matters.
- Broad commercial experience with extensive contract drafting, reviewing and negotiation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French is a strong asset.
- Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands in a fast‑paced environment.
