About the role
The organization is seeking a Landscape Designer to support the planning, design, and implementation of park, trail, and horticultural projects. Reporting to the Landscape Architect, the role will involve both office‑based design work and field supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Develop conceptual and detailed designs for parks, trails, and environmental projects.
- Prepare construction drawings, cost estimates, and contract documents.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors during construction and renewal phases.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and warranty reviews, producing related reports.
- Assist with public engagement, preparing presentations and workshop materials.
- Maintain inventory data for parks, forestry, and horticulture assets.
- Prepare grant applications and planting plans for gardens, boulevards, and tree programs.
- Organise and support community events such as tree‑planting days and ecological restoration activities.
Required profile
- Post‑secondary education in Landscape Design, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Civil Engineering, Ecological Restoration, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in landscape design, forestry, or horticultural environments.
- Experience facilitating community information sessions and workshops.
- Knowledge of municipal park, cemetery, and open‑space planning practices.
- Valid Class G driver’s licence, acceptable driver’s abstract, and clean criminal background check.
Required skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating design drawings and plans.
- Experience using GIS software for data input and record management.
- Hands‑on horticultural knowledge and ability to prepare planting plans.
- Understanding of landscape construction methods, materials, and specifications.
