About the role
Seabird Island is seeking a Land to Table Farm Assistant to support day‑to‑day operations on the Tém:éxw li te Letam Farm during the peak growing season. The role is hands‑on, outdoor, and focused on crop production, field maintenance and community engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with planting, seeding, transplanting and preparing beds.
- Perform crop maintenance tasks such as weeding, watering, mulching, pruning, trellising and pest monitoring.
- Harvest vegetables, fruits or herbs, then wash, sort and pack produce.
- Support soil care through composting, soil amendments and basic field preparation.
- Set up, monitor and adjust irrigation systems and hand‑water crops as needed.
- Operate and maintain basic farm tools and small equipment safely.
- Maintain farm structures, fencing, pathways and storage areas.
- Assist with produce washing, labeling and organization for sale or storage.
- Participate in community relations activities supporting clients and the community.
Required profile
- Interest in agriculture, sustainability, food systems or outdoor work.
- Physical ability to lift 20‑40 lb, bend, kneel and work in varying weather conditions.
- Reliability, punctuality and ability to work independently or within a small team.
- Willingness to undergo a clear Criminal Record Check and adhere to Seabird Island Band values.
- No prior farm experience required – training will be provided.
Required skills
- Basic farm tool operation (hand tools, wheelbarrows, small equipment).
- Irrigation system setup and monitoring.
- Soil amendment preparation and composting.
- Harvesting, washing and packing of produce.
