Laboratory Technician

About the role

As a Laboratory Technician at Dynacare, you will collect high-quality blood and other specimens from patients and support a range of diagnostic tests. Working within a collaborative team, you will help ensure a smooth, patient-focused experience while maintaining strict quality and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Create a best-in-class customer experience for patients interacting with Dynacare’s services.
• Accurately enter patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Obtain blood and other specimens using skilled venipuncture techniques.
• Sort, label, and transport specimens; perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath-alcohol collections.
• Ensure all specimens and documentation comply with SOPs and are ready for laboratory processing.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Contribute to departmental quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators.

Required profile

• Secondary school completion and a Laboratory Assistant training program with specialized phlebotomy training.
• Demonstrated ability to manage anxious patients calmly during sample collection.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English sufficient to give clear instructions to patients.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques.
• ECG and Holter monitoring procedures.
• Specimen sorting, labeling and transportation.
• Data entry for health-care requisitions.

What we offer

• Full-time permanent position with a guaranteed 85 hours bi-weekly.
• Day-shift schedule: Mon, Tue, Thu 8:00 am‑5:00 pm; Wed 8:00 am‑4:00 pm; Fri 8:00 am‑1:00 pm; Sun 8:00 am‑12:00 pm.
• Location at Dynacare’s North York laboratory.
