Lab Helper (Work‑Study) – Histology Lab

About the role
This work‑study position supports the Histology Innovation Platform in Professor Katie Cockburn’s lab. Under supervision, you will assist with routine histology procedures and lab operations while gaining hands‑on experience in a research environment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform tissue cassetting, grossing, processing, embedding and slide printing.
- Conduct quality‑control checks on specimens and prepared slides.
- Distribute, track and manage lab parcels and provide basic customer service.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and overall lab upkeep.
- Enter and update data in inventory databases.
Required profile
- High school diploma (or equivalent) with minimal prior experience.
- Current McGill student eligible for work‑study, with proof of enrollment and work‑study confirmation letter.
- Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec.
- English proficiency assessed at level #3 (qualifier).
- Strong organization, attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively.
Required skills
- Scientific background and basic wet‑lab knowledge.
- Experience with histological techniques (preferred).
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and data‑entry tools.
What we offer
- Part‑time work‑study contract (15 hours/week) from 15 Sept 2026 to 15 Dec 2026.
- Hourly wage of $16.85 CAD, covered by the AMUSE collective agreement.
- Opportunity to develop practical lab skills in a university research setting.
