About the role
The Animal Care Assistant C will support the Animal Health Technician in managing the mouse colony at the Goodman Cancer Institute. This part‑time position involves routine animal husbandry, basic laboratory tasks, and data entry to ensure smooth operation of the research facility.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Animal Health Technician in daily colony management.
- Check plugs and maintain cage equipment.
- Administer injections to mice as required.
- Perform mating, weaning, and general husbandry of laboratory mice.
- Prepare reagents and supplies for laboratory use.
- Enter and maintain accurate animal and experimental records.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare and laboratory safety protocols.
Required profile
- High School Diploma with at least two years of relevant animal‑care or laboratory experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (level 3) and knowledge of French.
- Experience handling laboratory mice and familiarity with basic lab safety procedures.
- Capacity to work independently and as part of a research team on a 10‑hour per week schedule.
