About the role
The Department of Biology at McGill University is looking for a Lab Helper B to assist with the preparation and relocation of teaching laboratories for Biology 111–112. The role is part‑time and focuses on ensuring that all laboratory materials and equipment are ready, organized, and safely transferred to new facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Support laboratory preparation activities for microbiology and plant science sessions.
- Gather, sort, and organize dry and wet chemicals from designated storage areas.
- Organize kitchen and preparation room items for relocation and future use.
- Track and manage laboratory inventory during the move.
- Follow established task lists to ensure materials readiness for each course.
- Prepare and stage chemicals for safe transport by Chemical Waste services.
- Assist in packing, labeling, and tracking materials during relocation.
- Help set up teaching labs and preparation rooms in the new facilities.
- Maintain clean, organized, and functional workspaces throughout the relocation period.
Required profile
- High school diploma (minimum).
- 1–2 years of experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Education in biology or a related field is an asset.
- First‑aid training and WHMIS certification are advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work Monday‑Friday.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
- English communication level assessed at 4/4.

What we offer
- Hourly wage of $20.00 (CAD).
- Part‑time schedule, approximately 30 hours per week.
- Fixed‑term contract from 12 August 2026 to 31 October 2026.
- Coverage under the AMUSE collective agreement.
