Janitor - Red Deer

About the role

Hope Mission, a Christian non-profit social care agency serving vulnerable people in Alberta since 1929, is hiring a Janitor in Red Deer. The Janitor keeps the buildings and surrounding areas clean and safe for staff, guests and community members, working 40 hours a week and reporting to the Shelter Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Cleaning and sanitation: implement custodial procedures, sweep, vacuum and mop floors and stairways, and collect and dispose of rubbish and waste.
• Facility support: help facility management staff, arrange and rearrange tables and chairs for events, and take part in set-up and tear-down.
• Outdoor work: clean sidewalks and parking lots, remove snow and do landscaping.
• Maintain janitorial equipment, keep areas free of hazards, and help maintain building security.
• Report needed repairs, safety hazards or conditions needing outside vendors to the supervisor, and follow up on unscheduled task requests.
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Physically fit, able to lift 50 lbs (23 kg) or more and stand and work for long periods indoors and outdoors.
• Commitment to Hope Mission's mission and values, including compassion, respect, integrity and excellence.
• Dependable, proactive and self-motivated, respectful and professional with staff, guests, volunteers and community members.
• Belief that recovery is possible and that chronic homelessness can be ended.
• Must sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith, be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis, and provide a criminal record check with a Vulnerable Sector Search.
• A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset.
