Human Resources Generalist

About the role

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Senior Manager of Human Resources and supports labour‑relations, employee engagement and HR administration across the plant. The role serves as the first point of contact for employees and supervisors, providing guidance on policies, collective agreements and day‑to‑day HR issues.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and apply the Collective Agreement, including grievance processes, to support the Senior HR Manager.
• Conduct investigations of sensitive issues and make recommendations consistent with policy and collective intent.
• Advise operational leaders on collective‑agreement administration and manage the Attendance Management Program.
• Coordinate non‑occupational disability accommodations, leaves of absence and return‑to‑work updates.
• Coach and mentor supervisors, addressing employee concerns and conducting regular plant visits.
• Organise training sessions, employee‑engagement activities and exit interviews; present exit analysis to management.
• Liaise on benefits and payroll inquiries, handle vendor payments and prepare job reference letters.
• Provide back‑up support to Health and Safety investigations and complete HR audits and record‑keeping in HRIS.
• Lead recruitment and selection for hourly positions, from posting to new‑hire orientation.
• Support reporting on location‑based KPIs and assist the Senior HR Manager with salary‑recruitment postings.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Human Resource Management or equivalent experience.
• CHRP designation is a strong asset.
• 3 – 5+ years of experience in an HR generalist role, preferably in a unionized environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with HRIS systems.
