Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Clerk

About the role

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Clerk supports the HSE team on construction sites, providing essential administrative and coordination services to ensure safety programs are effectively implemented. Working under the HSE Coordinator or Manager, the clerk helps maintain compliance with company policies and relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct new‑worker and visitor site orientations.
• Coordinate Joint Health & Safety Committee activities, schedule meetings and record minutes.
• Maintain safety boards, training records, certifications and compliance logs.
• Track, organize and file inspections, permits (confined space, hot work, critical lift) and other safety documentation.
• Provide First Aid treatment when required and assist with incident and near‑miss documentation.
• Support emergency preparedness by maintaining equipment and assisting during response situations.
• Monitor and report safety concerns or non‑compliance to the HSE Coordinator or site supervision.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and ability to keep records accurate and up‑to‑date.
• Good communication skills for interacting with workers, visitors and the JHSC.
• Ability to follow procedures and work under direction of senior HSE staff.
• Basic understanding of occupational health and safety legislation is preferred.

Required skills

• First Aid certification.
• Experience with air‑quality monitoring or related safety equipment.
• Familiarity with permit coordination (confined space, hot work, critical lift).
