About the role
The Health Care Aide (HCA) joins a multidisciplinary team to provide personal assistance and support services to clients in home, community, or health‑care facilities. Working closely with patients, families, and caregivers, the HCA helps implement care plans, ensuring safety, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and recreation needs are met.
Key responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility.
- Support nurses by delivering routine care and monitoring patient health, mood, and wellbeing.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition to the health‑care team.
- Help organize and facilitate recreational activities and programs.
- Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and health‑care professionals.
Required profile
- Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.
- Proof of enrolment or certification as required.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle.
- Nursing students with at least 100 hours practicum in an approved Alberta program may be considered.
Required skills
- Ability to assist with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety tasks.
- Strong observation and reporting skills regarding patient health and mood.
- Effective communication and teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment.
