Grocery Clerk – Part Time

About the role

Join Food Basics as a part‑time Grocery Clerk in Ottawa. You’ll keep the store shelves stocked, maintain a clean environment and help customers find the items they need.

Key responsibilities

• Unload deliveries and organize products in the backroom or cooler.
• Restock shelves, ensuring items are placed in the correct locations.
• Rotate stock using the first‑in, first‑out method.
• Keep aisles, shelves and the overall store clean; sweep and mop floors as needed.
• Handle spills promptly and maintain a safe environment for customers.
• Assist customers in locating products and answer their questions.
• Provide product recommendations and help with shopping needs.
• Occasionally help customers load groceries into their vehicle.
• Conduct periodic inventory counts and report discrepancies or damaged items.
• Receive products and verify invoice accuracy.
• Set up and maintain promotional displays and end caps.
• Update signage and price tags as required.

Required profile

• Ability to work flexible shifts, including days, evenings and weekends.
• Capability to lift and move deliveries and stock items.
• Strong attention to detail for stock rotation and inventory accuracy.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe store environment.
• Good communication skills for assisting customers.

What we offer

• Hourly wage starting at $16.60, with higher rates possible based on experience, as per the collective agreement.
