Graduation Coach – Indigenous Student Success (Temporary)

About the role
The Simcoe County District School Board seeks a dedicated Graduation Coach to support Indigenous students and their families. This temporary, full‑time role runs from June 2026 to December 2027 and focuses on helping students transition successfully through secondary school, achieve credits, graduate, and move on to post‑secondary pathways.
Key responsibilities
- Create a caring school and community environment by addressing academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs of Indigenous students.
- Mentor and advise students and families, identifying and supporting well‑being across social, emotional, intellectual, cultural, and physical dimensions.
- Coordinate community cultural support services and act as a liaison among school, home, and social service agencies.
- Collaborate with elementary and secondary schools to improve Indigenous students' perceptions of education.
- Work with administrators, staff, families, and community resources to identify barriers and develop solutions for student engagement.
- Monitor attendance and assignment completion, focusing on graduation outcomes.
- Prepare reports tracking individual student progress, including data collection and analysis.
- Lead the development and implementation of Indigenous Education programs and services.
- Support additional Indigenous Education initiatives, which may occur outside regular hours.
Required profile
- Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Humanities, Social Science, Social Services, Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of decolonizing the curriculum and integrating Indigenous history, culture, and Ways of Knowing.
- Strong commitment to Indigenous education and the ability to build trusting relationships.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Indigenous education frameworks and cultural engagement strategies.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and report student data.
- Effective communication and mentorship skills.
