Freelance Journalist for Kingstonist

About the role

The Kingstonist is a fast‑paced, community‑driven media outlet covering news, arts, culture, environment and local events in Kingston, Ontario. We are looking for a freelance journalist who can produce accurate, engaging stories across written, audio, video and photographic formats. This role offers the chance to contribute to a growing platform that values diverse perspectives and local insight.

Key responsibilities

• Research, interview, and write newsworthy stories that reflect the Kingston community.
• Attend local events and travel within the market to capture content.
• Produce multimedia pieces, including audio podcasts, video clips, and photographs.
• Work independently while taking direction from the Editor‑in‑Chief and meeting tight deadlines.
• Maintain impartiality and uphold professional, ethical standards in all interactions.

Required profile

• Experience in print journalism, either through work or education.
• Familiarity with Canadian Press (CP) style is an asset.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of Kingston and its local community is preferred.
