Field Service Technician - Power Systems

About the role

ABB is hiring a Field Service Technician for its Electrification Field Service Team in Edmonton, Alberta. The role delivers technical support and service to customers, performing installations, maintenance and repairs on equipment, and works on field service projects. It is a hybrid position reporting to the Field Service Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Apply safety rules, safe practices and environmental responsibilities during all service activities, and lead HSE activities at customer sites.
• Identify new service business opportunities with customers and ABB teams, and build strong customer relationships.
• Provide field service support for high, medium and low voltage power systems, including testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, upgrades, retrofits and installations.
• Lead and execute service projects safely and efficiently, developing work scopes, supporting estimates and delivering on time, within budget and to quality standards.
• Coordinate and direct team activities, drive productivity and continuous improvement, and mentor technicians and engineers.
• Collaborate with sales teams to expand the customer base and support business objectives.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience servicing, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, upgrading and installing high, medium and low voltage power distribution equipment.
• Ability to travel locally and nationally 50% of the time, work overtime and weekends, and respond to off-hours service requests.
• Proven ability to lead field service projects safely and independently, on time and on budget.
• Engineering degree or Certified Electrical Technologist.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems; relay testing and commissioning is a strong asset.
• Experience with power system testing equipment and commissioning procedures.
• Proficiency in reading and developing technical documentation, electrical drawings and work scopes.
• Customer relationship management, business development and sales support skills.
