Field Safety Advisor

About the role

The Transmission group is seeking a Field Safety Advisor to support the Wasoqonatl Transmission Line project in Amherst, NS. Reporting to the Regional Safety Supervisor, you will be the primary safety resource on‑site, ensuring that Valard’s safety culture is applied and maintained throughout the project.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a visible safety presence in the field and support employees, contractors, and visitors according to the Site Safety Management Plan.
• Coach and communicate safety expectations to field staff, conduct daily tailboard reviews, and address identified hazards.
• Assist supervisors and foremen with incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Facilitate weekly safety meetings, capture minutes, and prepare weekly/monthly safety reports.
• Support the development and review of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and ensure they are available on‑site.
• Perform observations, inspections, and emergency preparedness drills, then share findings through safety meetings and postings.
• Stay current with provincial legislation (Nova Scotia and New Brunswick) and inform project leadership of relevant changes.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary education in a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of construction site safety experience.
• National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) certification.
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
• Familiarity with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick safety legislation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
