Field Operation Assistant (Part-time)

About the role

The Macdonald Campus Farm/Horticulture Centre is seeking a Field Operation Assistant to support daily farm activities on a part‑time, fixed‑term basis. You will work under the supervision of the Chief Horticulture Technician, contributing to the preparation, cultivation, and harvest of a variety of crops.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare land and remove rocks for planting beds.
• Seed, transplant, prune, and hoe crops as directed.
• Operate tractors for field tasks when needed.
• Harvest fruits and vegetables and assist with sales at the Mac Market counter.
• Collect data from research plots for ongoing studies.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Chief Horticulture Technician.

Required profile

• High school diploma (minimum).
• No prior experience required; on‑the‑job training provided.
• Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
• English communication level assessed at #2 (out of 0‑4).
• Previous horticulture work or a driver’s licence are assets.

Required skills

• Tractor operation.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $18.00 CAD.
• Approximately 35 hours per week, part‑time.
• Fixed‑term contract from 21 August 2026 to 14 November 2026.
• Opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in horticulture and farm management.
