Facility Operator – Oil & Gas (1‑year contract)

About the role

Our client, a leading oil and gas company, is seeking a Facility Operator to maintain safe and efficient operation of a processing site in Edmonton on a one‑year contract. You will work closely with the Control Center and lead safety initiatives while supervising third‑party services.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain care and control of the site as a Facility Operator.
• Oversee operation of process equipment such as pumps, vessels, and gas chromatographs.
• Communicate directly with the Control Center and act as a relief operator for higher‑level competency.
• Prepare, review, and sign work permits for employees and contractors.
• Conduct pre‑job meetings, supervise third‑party work, and lead HSE site meetings.
• Mentor junior operators and lead emergency response exercise drills.
• Identify and report mechanical defects on process and mobile equipment.
• Maintain Geometrix and Track Sheet records and sign off railcars ready for release.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience (preferred).
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar operator role.
• Certifications such as Power Engineering or NGP III are advantageous.
• Strong understanding of safe operating practices, emergency response, and work‑permit procedures.

Required skills

• Distributed Control Systems (DCS) operation.
• Human‑Machine Interface (HMI) proficiency.
• Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to read and interpret Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
• Experience with rail operations.
• Troubleshooting of mechanical and process equipment.
