Executive Chef

About the role

The Executive Chef will lead the culinary team at Balthazar Café Inc., overseeing all aspects of food preparation, menu development and kitchen operations in Val‑d'Or. This role combines creative recipe design with rigorous cost control to deliver high‑quality dining experiences for daily service and special events.

Key responsibilities

• Estimate quantities and costs of supplies and food items, and calculate labour expenses.
• Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory.
• Create new recipes and plan menus that meet quality standards.
• Instruct and supervise cooks, sous‑chefs and specialist chefs in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation.
• Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty dishes for events such as banquets.
• Requisition food and kitchen supplies, ensuring timely delivery.
• Recruit, hire and train kitchen staff, providing mentorship and coaching.

Required profile

• College, CEGEP or comparable non‑university certificate/diploma (1‑2 years).
• Cook Trade Certification.
• 2 – 3 years of professional kitchen experience.
• Availability for early‑morning, evening, day, weekend and on‑call shifts, with overtime as needed.
• Commitment to youth mentorship and networking opportunities.
