Evening Service Worker

About the role

UBC’s Building Operations is seeking an Evening Service Worker to maintain cleanliness and safety across the Vancouver Point Grey Campus during the 3‑11 pm shift. The role involves routine custodial duties, minor maintenance, and support for campus events, ensuring a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, polish and disinfect floors, walls, fixtures and furniture using hand or power‑operated equipment.
• Clean interior and exterior windows, glass surfaces, shades and Venetian blinds.
• Replenish consumables such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels and writing paper in designated areas.
• Collect and dispose of garbage and waste, empty receptacles and transport waste to collection points.
• Report maintenance issues, broken fixtures or security concerns and assist in emergency evacuations.
• Set up and break down furniture and equipment for university functions, exams and ceremonies.

Required profile

• Completion of Grade 10 and at least one year of relevant custodial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and follow written and oral instructions.

Required skills

• Ability to operate standard custodial equipment, including light and heavy‑duty hand‑powered or powered cleaning tools.
• Knowledge of basic custodial safety and security procedures.
