Emerging Leader in AI-based Protein Modeling & Design

About the role

The Canada Impact+ Emerging Leader position is a tenure‑track Assistant Professor appointment jointly in the Michael Smith Laboratories and the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at UBC, focusing on AI‑driven protein modeling and design.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead an independent, externally funded research program in AI‑based protein design and modeling.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biochemistry, molecular biology, and AI‑related topics.
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and post‑doctoral researchers.
• Develop collaborations within the Centre for Applied Protein Design, Canada’s Immuno‑Engineering and Biomanufacturing Hub, and the Centre for AI Decision‑making and Action.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in computer science, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, engineering or a related discipline.
• Eligibility for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor appointment at UBC.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly activity and teaching experience.
• Strong publication record in AI‑based protein modeling or design.

Required skills
