Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of more than 20 physicians in the ocean‑front community of Nanaimo, BC. The position is based in a new, state‑of‑the‑art emergency department that serves as the busiest ED on Vancouver Island and a regional trauma referral centre.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency and trauma care to an annual census of ~70,000 patients.
• Lead emergency and trauma teams, coordinating with major specialty services.
• Participate in clinical, administrative, educational, and research activities as desired.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of departmental processes and patient safety.

Required profile

• Board‑certified in Emergency Medicine and eligible to practice in British Columbia.
• Previous experience in a high‑volume emergency department is preferred.
• Strong interest in clinical excellence, teamwork, and optional involvement in education or research.
