Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial team of more than 20 physicians in the ocean‑front community of Nanaimo, BC. You will work in a new, state‑of‑the‑art emergency department that serves as the busiest ED on Vancouver Island and a referral centre for the central island catchment area.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency and trauma care to a diverse patient population (≈70,000 visits annually).
• Lead emergency and trauma teams, coordinating with major specialty services.
• Participate in clinical, administrative, educational, and research activities as desired.
• Contribute to departmental initiatives and quality‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility for licensure to practice in British Columbia.
• Strong clinical competence with interest in trauma care.
• Willingness to engage in leadership, teaching, or research.
