Emergency Physician – Island Health, Nanaimo

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial group of more than 20 physicians in the ocean‑front community of Nanaimo, British Columbia. The position offers the chance to practice in a newly built, state‑of‑the‑art emergency department that serves as the busiest facility on Vancouver Island, handling approximately 70,000 patient visits each year.

Key responsibilities

• Provide emergency and trauma care in a high‑volume, modern emergency department.
• Lead and coordinate the emergency and trauma team, collaborating with all major specialty services.
• Engage in clinical, administrative, educational, and research activities according to personal interests.

Required profile

• Board‑certified emergency physician eligible to practice in British Columbia.
• Commitment to delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based emergency care.
• Willingness to participate in team leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Trauma life support or equivalent training.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.
