About the role
Associated Ambulance is seeking Emergency Medical Responders to join its Interfacility Transfer (IFT) teams based in Red Deer or Acheson, Alberta. EMRs provide safe, compassionate patient transfers between healthcare facilities while acting as patient advocates and collaborating with hospital staff.
Key responsibilities
- Provide patient care and monitoring during interfacility transfers.
- Operate EMS vehicles safely in line with company policy and road regulations.
- Transport patients between hospitals, care facilities, and specialty treatment centres.
- Collaborate with sending and receiving healthcare teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Perform patient assessments and deliver care within the EMR scope of practice.
- Follow Medical Control Protocols, standard operating procedures, and company policies.
- Complete accurate patient care documentation.
- Maintain professionalism, patient dignity, privacy and comfort.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals and colleagues.
- Ensure ambulances, equipment and stations are clean, stocked and ready for operation.
Required profile
- Completion of an accredited Emergency Medical Responder program and active registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider certification.
- Valid Alberta Class 4 driver’s licence with a clean 5‑year driving abstract.
- Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) completed within the last six months.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Proof of up‑to‑date vaccinations.
- Availability for required orientation and mentorship dates.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including short‑notice coverage.
- Preferred: Minimum one year of experience in an EMS frontline role or relevant healthcare setting.
Required skills
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) training.
- Alberta Class 4 driver’s licence.
