Elementary Long Term Occasional (LTO) Special Education Teacher

About the role

The York Region District School Board is seeking an Elementary Long Term Occasional (LTO) teacher to provide full‑time special education instruction. This position supports student success by delivering specialized curriculum and individualized support in an elementary setting.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess special education programs for elementary students.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to create inclusive learning environments.
• Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and individualized education plans (IEPs).
• Participate in professional development and school meetings as required.

Required profile

• Valid Special Education qualification recognized by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers or in the process of becoming qualified before the start date.
• Ability to provide a satisfactory police record check.
• For external candidates: at least three professional teaching references.
• For internal candidates: two references, one of which must be a YRDSB administrator.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Ontario special education policies and practices.
• Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans.
• Effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
