Elementary Long Term Occasional (LTO) Special Education Teacher – ASD Community Class

About the role

The York Region District School Board is seeking a qualified Elementary Special Education teacher to work on a Long Term Occasional (LTO) basis in a 100% Community Class for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This position offers a rewarding opportunity to support student success in a public education environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver curriculum and individualized instruction to elementary students in the ASD community class.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Maintain accurate records, assessments, and progress reports in accordance with board policies.
• Participate in professional development and school meetings as required.

Required profile

• Special Education qualification recognized by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT).
• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers or in the process of becoming qualified before the start date.
• Three professional teaching references (external candidates) or two references including a YRDSB administrator (internal candidates).
• Clear police record check.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Ontario Special Education regulations and practices.
• Ability to design and deliver instruction for students with ASD.
• Effective communication with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
