Elementary Long Term Occasional (LTO) Kindergarten Teacher

About the role

The York Region District School Board is seeking a qualified Elementary Long Term Occasional (LTO) teacher to work full‑time in a kindergarten classroom. This position offers a rewarding environment where educators support student success and contribute to the community.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and assess engaging kindergarten lessons aligned with the Ontario curriculum.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom atmosphere.
• Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
• Collaborate with fellow teachers, specialists, and school leadership to enhance learning outcomes.
• Participate in school events, professional development, and staff meetings.

Required profile

• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (or in the process of becoming qualified) before the start date.
• Three professional teaching references for external candidates; internal candidates must include two references, one of which must be a YRDSB administrator.
• Successful completion of a satisfactory police record check.
• Relevant teaching experience in an elementary or kindergarten setting.

Required skills

• Effective classroom management and lesson planning.
• Ability to assess student learning and adapt instruction.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with students, parents, and staff.
• Familiarity with the Ontario Kindergarten curriculum and educational standards.
