Electron-Beam Lithography & Process Engineer

About the role

The Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute at UBC seeks a senior expert to manage and operate its state‑of‑the‑art JEOL JBX‑8100FS 100 kV electron‑beam lithography system. The Engineer will be the single point of accountability for the tool, delivering high‑resolution patterning services to internal researchers and external industrial partners.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain optimal performance of the JEOL JBX‑8100FS, including routine calibration, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
• Provide user training, schedule instrument time, and ensure reliable service delivery under fee‑for‑service contracts.
• Design and execute micro‑ and nano‑fabrication processes for multiple concurrent research projects.
• Collaborate with academic and industrial teams, contributing technical expertise to quantum‑matter research when opportunities arise.
• Document procedures, generate reports, and uphold cleanroom safety standards.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience with electron‑beam lithography and nanofabrication.
• Strong knowledge of cleanroom protocols and micro‑fabrication workflows.
• Ability to work independently, manage client relationships, and communicate technical information clearly.
• Relevant academic background (e.g., PhD or MSc in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field).

• Nanofabrication and microfabrication techniques.
• Cleanroom operations and safety procedures.
