Electrical Technologist Internship

About the role

Gerdau is seeking an Electrical Technologist Intern to join its Reliability Team in Selkirk, Manitoba. This on‑site internship offers hands‑on experience with large, complex steel production equipment and supports the company’s digital transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Update equipment and facility drawings after training.
• Assist engineers on capital‑expenditure improvement projects and manage smaller non‑capex projects.
• Work with external vendors, consultants, and contractors to support project delivery.
• Support the electrical planner and help plan electrical jobs, including ordering parts.

Required profile

• At least two years completed in an Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology program (or equivalent).
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 (3.0 preferred) and a record of high academic achievement.
• Leadership experience in student organizations or extracurricular activities.
• Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD design software.
• Familiarity with PLCs and automation concepts.
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
• Detail‑oriented, organized, and able to work independently.
