Electrical Engineer – Power Generation Projects

About the role

As an Electrical Engineer on Enerflex’s Electric Power team, you will lead the electrical design and execution of power‑generation projects, delivering reliable and sustainable energy solutions for utilities, IPPs, industrial facilities and mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Support business development with grid interconnect, switchgear, transformer and MCC selection.
• Prepare LV, MV and HV single‑line diagrams, protective relay settings and grounding requirements.
• Design paralleling generator schemes and detailed schematics for engine auxiliaries.
• Create load lists, equipment sizing and electrical bill of materials for purchasing.
• Perform arc‑flash hazard analysis and coordinate protective devices.
• Review vendor drawings, interconnect agreements and prepare construction drawings and scopes of work.
• Manage external suppliers, inspect contractor work and assist with commissioning.

Required profile

• Current P.Eng. registration in a Canadian province with at least 5 years of power‑system design experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and its application to conductor sizing, protection devices and installation methods.
• Understanding of electrical power generation, synchronizing controls for spark‑ignited reciprocating engines, and LV/MV/HV distribution.
• Experience specifying transformers, switchgear, MCCs, VFDs and related equipment.

Required skills

• AutoCAD Electrical for drafting schematics and construction drawings.
• ETAP for load flow, short‑circuit, harmonic, motor‑starting and relay‑coordination studies.
• Design of single‑line diagrams, motor‑control centers and protective‑relay settings.
• Arc‑flash hazard analysis and protective‑device coordination.
• Preparation of electrical bills of materials and equipment sizing calculations.
